When the weather gets really cold it can cause stress cracks or pressure cracks in your windows. You will typically find these cracks around the edges of your home’s windows. In most cases they start out small. They can spread across the glass over time. If the temperature fluctuates a lot it may cause these cracks to spread more quickly. On those days the temps are below zero you might find yourself cranking up the heat inside, this extreme fluctuation in can cause those cracks to grow.
Extreme temperatures can cause wood to warp and bow. This can cause structural issues with the windows and you might notice a draft from these changes. It also allows the heat OUT!
Ice is NOT nice for windows. It can build up around the windows and causes windows to freeze shut. With older windows water can get into spaces in the window frame and then freeze. This can cause cracks or messed up weather stripping when you try to open the window.
